Southern Denmark is an region in Denmark, its called in Danish "Region Syddanmark". Before 2007 Denmark uses counties (amter), there were 13 counties and 3 municipalities with county status like Copenhagen, Frederiksberg and the island of Bornholm. The abolished counties are replaced with 5 regions, also the Danish municipalities are reduced from 270 to 98. Southern Denmark comprise the southern part of the Jutland peninsula, the island of Funen and smaller islands like Ærø en Langeland. Despite that Odense is the biggest city is the smaller city of Vejle is the capital. Currently there are now 22 municipalities and the region of Southern Denmark has an population of around 1,2 million. In the region is also an minority of North Schleswig Germans there is around an population of 15 thousand speaks German as its first language. They have linguistic rights in accordance with the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. South of the border in Germany there are living around 50 thousand Danish and have the same rights. These minorities live here for centuries and borders may shifting once in an while those people stayed were they are. So let take an look at the flag.
They using an logo flag because the new Danish regions are not allowed to use community money to create coat of arms and fancy flags. So this the result the name of the region in Danish and dynamic green line, there also inverted versions of this flag. The green line has few meanings.
First its an outline of Southern Denmark, left you see South Jutland, right the island of Funen. The island of Langeland is attached to Funen and the island of Als is attached to South Jutland.
Second the line symbolized the cohesion of the region.
Third the line stands for growth and the unique nature.
Modern flag but drop the words and inverted the colors, that will works slightly better.
